Now I have to figure out when I can go pick it up. Courthouse is only open Mon. - Fri. 8 AM to 4 PM. I work Mon. - Fri. 8:30 AM to 5 PM. I leave the house at about 7:45 AM to go to work. Guess I'll have to either go in late one day or leave early.

I have a Bersa Thunder .380 that I plan to carry most of the time since its small and relatively easy to conceal.

I also have a Taurus PT99 9mm that I may carry sometimes. This is a large gun so probably not that often, even though it would be more power than the .380.

I've been looking at 1911s a lot lately too. Not sure if I'll buy one any time soon or not.

I would hope your work would let you out if you tell them you have to go down to the courthouse to pick up some legal documents. Or if you don't mind everyone knowing you carry, then tell them exactly why.

Off topic, did you mean to state your 9mm would be more powerful than your .380.

Only slightly anyways, and if your 9mm is pretty big handgun, and your shopping for another, pick up a good ol .45 ACP, you can get them in about the same size package as a larger framed 9mm, and then you will up your stopping power a lot more than .380 to 9mm, which is basically a 9mm short chamber.

I need to apply for mine soon.

All you do is fill out a form and get the license? Or do you have to be a bodyguard, private eye etc.?

i don't think there would be a problem with me leaving early.

In OH you need classroom and /range hours as well as a felony-free record.

no. you fill out the app, give them a picture of yourself, and give 2 references (no-family, must live in separate households, and live within same county). they then do a background check on you and call your references. not sure what they ask the references or how detailed the background check is. I assume its pretty extensive. I'll have to ask my references what they asked them. I am a bit curious about that.

i think its a little different from state to state or maybe even county to county but for the most part its the same.

I just posted the PA (at least in my county anyway) requirements above. I don't need classroom or range hours. Yeah, you must not be convicted of a crime also, but thats a requirement to even own a gun anyway.

In Arkansas, it takes classroom time, range qualification, a background check, fingerprints are submitted to the FBI, and of course no criminal record.

Congrats on the permit. I've got one from PA now and I'm still waiting on my Utah one to come in.

Hmm, I was thinking about picking mine up while I'm home on Winter Break.. I don't know if I can think of a second person to use as a reference in the same county. I kinda cut ties with the high school crowd.
