Let's say I've got a customer with an analog cctv system: 4 cameras into a quad splitter, out into a vcr, and out into a monitor. Pretty standard stuff. He wants to get online to view this system remotely.

So I figure what I need to do is replace the vcr with a pc. That's where I hit the wall. Is there a video card that has 4 BNC/RCA inputs, that I can hook the outputs of the cameras to, or a card that has one input for the quad splitter? Everything I've found, so far, deals with camcorders, etc.

I found a unit that will do this, but it's an external unit, and I want to build a machine that has this, well, built in. I'm just thinking outloud, er, with my keyboard, so feel free to jump in here.

Why couldn't you feed the video out of the splitter into a video capture card? The computer doesn't care if it's hooked up to a camcorder, a DVD player, a VCR, a cable box, or whatever...

Yeah, that's what I'm starting to see. An Osprey 100 looks like the way to go for that. About $150. I was thinking, if I had 4 inputs, and the proper software, that I would have control over the 4 cameras, motion activatation, ptz, and such. But I think that would take 4 cards, and that would roll the cost up too much. I think you've nailed the solution. Thanks Matthias.
