Is it worth the investment? Can you get by with tools like Packet Tracer and GNS3?

If you have access to Packet Tracer, and IOS's for GNS 3 you would probably be ok with not getting dedicated lab equipment.

Back when I passed the CCNA, I used Boson's Netsim for all of the lab practice. I ended up failing the test by 2 points on my first try, and remember a question on the test regarding what an orange or yellow light meant on a port, I had to guess on that question and am pretty sure I didn't get it correct. Had I messed with the real equipment, I probably would have narrowly passed it on the first try.
