Ccie 😉
Cooky , Would share your Journey ? how was it from CCNP to IE ?
How much of a study did you do it ? per day
I became CCNP certified in 2005-2006. In the next several years, I'd always wanted to take on CCIE, but I was no where near ready for the exam.
After 4 years of hands-on experience at work, I felt it was the right time to start studying for it in the summer of 2010.
That same summer this guy I met at the Networkers recommended IPExpert, one of the CCIE training vendors. So I bought their workbooks, and started working on the lab exercises.
Equipment wise I was fortunate to be able to utilize surplus 2800's & 3560's at work.
So I had my personal CCIE lab rack for free; didn't even have to pay for electric bills.
In mid 2011, I took Cisco360 workshops 1 & 2 through NetMasterClass, which were very expensive, but helpful.
Failed my 1st & 2nd attempts in June & August, but passed the 3rd time in October.
Having done both CCNP & CCIE, I'd say you have to know how to resolve a problem w/ multiple solutions.
If there are 3 ways to achieve a task, you better know the 4th way.
The task may impose restrictions, so that the easiest solution can't be used.
Some questions also lack clarity, so it can be frustrating at times, because it's not that you don't know how to do something, but the proctor wouldn't tell you exactly what the question is asking for - it's all up to your interpretation, and then decide how to best configure them.
I'd say I spent about 4 hours every day studying in average, but I've heard people that spend 8+ hours.
In those 16 months it was like hell every day...no time to watch football or TV. Having a nagging young child & a wife who didn't understand the magnitude didn't help either.
If you want to get the number, you better do it before you become married or a parent, or at least have a sit down w/ the significant other, and make sure to have their support & understanding.
Even if you can't get free gear at work, it's still good investment to purchase & build your own lab.
