Say where is the good place to get 2620 XM routers ?
I already got the Rack, Switches, Acess Router, Frame Relay Router.
Lately they have become expensive or perhaps I am not looking at
Good Place ?
I usally look for local places (Toronto) or Ebay.ca
Any hints ?

You can save some money by using GNS3 and some 4 port network cards. Should consider renting time on racks setup for CCIE lab training. You get a decent price and access to equipment you probably don't want to spend money on, ie 3560's, 18xx's. Plus if you buy a workbook from one of the major CCIE trainers, you'll probably find a rack rental for it.

GNS3 flacky with CPU Spike to sudden crashes.... No switch support
It is doable ............ But not a real thing. I have also tried IOU which
is lot better but no Switch though
I am thinking if I buy used stuff I can sell it cheap too, so it wont be too much of a loss ?
Yea I would be blocking Log of money though 🙁

It would be good investment.
If the equipment is yours, you can use it however, whenever.
I was fortunate enough to have a rackful of 2800's & 3560's at work, so didn't have to deal w/ rental when I studied for the lab exam.
I did buy a bunch of 2500's & 2950's from eBay when I studied for CCNP; it was worth every penny.
Sold everything for the exact price I got them for, so didn't lose anything at all.

That is what I am thinking, I should able to sell the rack, what I have paid for it.
Cooky did you do the CCIE ? or only CCNP ?

Post modified.
Removed my suggestion about virtualization.
Sorry Cooky, if you felt like that..

Mir96TA - I did the NP years ago, and passed the IE last year.

cisco.guy - you had a similar post in another thread that promotes Perfect Solutions.
Are you a candidate who used their rental, and were simply making a recommendation, or was this spam?

That was not spam or promotion.
Yes, I used their dynamips virtual labs for ccie rs practice, that was good experience. That is neither online rack nor need to pay anything. That is well design dynamips labs with more than 15 devices, do not need to invest in high configuration computer or real devices.

Thank you

Ccie 😉
Cooky , Would share your Journey ? how was it from CCNP to IE ?
How much of a study did you do it ? per day

definitely GNS3 or if you have a buddy at Cisco IOUv2 (IOS on Unix Version 2 which added switching).

To do a true CCIE level home lab is a bit insane in both initial cost and monthly. Just a CCVP level voice lab can add $200 to one's electric bill.

My brother is dual, R&S and Storage.

I never had a problem with GNS, nor the scores of engineers at my company that use it for mock ups. They are running dual/quad cores of 2-3 years old though.

Most lab gear can be resold for close to the same price (even more if you build it into a lab vs ala carte)

Switching can be done with NM switching modules in a chassis...not exactly the same, but good enough for NP at least.

You will need real rack time for an IE pass or if you are lucky access to an IE level lab.

I became CCNP certified in 2005-2006. In the next several years, I'd always wanted to take on CCIE, but I was no where near ready for the exam.
After 4 years of hands-on experience at work, I felt it was the right time to start studying for it in the summer of 2010.

That same summer this guy I met at the Networkers recommended IPExpert, one of the CCIE training vendors. So I bought their workbooks, and started working on the lab exercises.
Equipment wise I was fortunate to be able to utilize surplus 2800's & 3560's at work.
So I had my personal CCIE lab rack for free; didn't even have to pay for electric bills.

In mid 2011, I took Cisco360 workshops 1 & 2 through NetMasterClass, which were very expensive, but helpful.
Failed my 1st & 2nd attempts in June & August, but passed the 3rd time in October.

Having done both CCNP & CCIE, I'd say you have to know how to resolve a problem w/ multiple solutions.
If there are 3 ways to achieve a task, you better know the 4th way.
The task may impose restrictions, so that the easiest solution can't be used.
Some questions also lack clarity, so it can be frustrating at times, because it's not that you don't know how to do something, but the proctor wouldn't tell you exactly what the question is asking for - it's all up to your interpretation, and then decide how to best configure them.

I'd say I spent about 4 hours every day studying in average, but I've heard people that spend 8+ hours.
In those 16 months it was like hell every day...no time to watch football or TV. Having a nagging young child & a wife who didn't understand the magnitude didn't help either.

If you want to get the number, you better do it before you become married or a parent, or at least have a sit down w/ the significant other, and make sure to have their support & understanding.
Even if you can't get free gear at work, it's still good investment to purchase & build your own lab.

Thanks Cooky,
But being Tripple CCIE does not add up your salary to 3X :whiste:
alkemyst can you get me IOUv2 ?
I think I have Orig Ver However it does have two switch. But I can't do etherchanel nor switch port security
Thanks Mir

Good story Cooky - thanks for sharing. My journey is similar - I've taken the Cisco360 #2 through Netmasterclass (the 5-day lab bootcamp) and will be taking my third lab attempt here in early April. Man I'm getting sick of studying... I hope to get it over with this time. I thought I was going to pass last time, until I got killed in troubleshooting (which was easy the first attempt). Seems like SO much depends on which exam you get.
