Charged Couple Device. They're the sensors used in digital cameras, etc. Mark R helped me find what I need.

There is a book that describes how to build your own CCD camera. It's called the "CCD Camera Cookbook". Entry-level astrophotographers sometimes use cameras based on model 245 blueprints found in this book.
