Hi,
I am a newbie to CCC. Ive been using MS Flightsim for years, now 2004 version. Just built a new pc and the GPU is noted above. If any of you people have a default setttings sheet for CCC for FS9 Id be mighty happy to read and implement as I just dont know if I have the potential to boost my current FS9 performance? The Bios too has options but I have not tried any changes there from default.

Anyhow:
ASUS VH222
XPHOME
P4 3.2ghz HT 2MB
4GB DDR2 800
640GB WD CAV BLACK
G31M-ES2L

All good advice welcome,

Berne

Uhhh, I'd turn off any AA/AF and set it to performance. Also changing settings within Flight Simulator to have less quality would help.

FS9/2004 isn't very gfx intensive, how slow is it going at your resolution?

You have a G31 chipset, so I believe it supports all Core2 duos and some Quads with a bios update. I'd hop on the best dual core under 65 that your board supports, unless you're cash constained. If you lower settings you could get by on just the CPU upgrade.

I do recommend getting a dual core and atleast a 9600gso/5570/4650 to game with.

--owns two P4 3.2 and one 1650, so I know their limitations well.

What resolution are you using (CRT? or LCD native?).

And I know that the x1650 is an old card, but a PCI card?

Thank you for the prompt reply...,

Being a newbie let me assist:

If referring to a change in CCC say go to CCC and which tab and setting to change. Display Manager? , Display Options, Monitor Props, 3D, Color,
Avivo, VPU Recover?

If referring to Flightsim just say go into FS9 and choose whichever option ect.

As for an upgrade on cpu front that is pending, glad of duo advice, quad much later. A new GPU will consider.

In my current CCC info center under Graphic Software Catalyst Ver = 10.2
In my current CCC graphics hardware Mem size is shown as 1GB does this mean I have a 1GB ( Hyper Memory ) GPU ( just I though it was only a 512mb ? ).

Reply when time permits

Direct X doubles you video allocation virtually but you dont get that performance of having 1gb of Vram. Not that the X1650 can utilize that much ram anyway ;-)

I'd just lower resolution and settings for now.

Just an idea of how much a CPU upgrade would benefit you, an E2xxx a@1.8ghz is equal to a PD @3.6ghz, which is double the performance per clock on a 1mbL2 Core 2. Since the (E5xxx+) 2mb Core2's are 15-25% faster per clock, an upgrade would be astronomical. One core of a 2mbL2 Core 2 @ 1.3-1.4ghz is about comparable to your current P4. What would a 2.5ghz Dual Core Core 2 be compared to your P4? I dont want to imagine.

An Upgrade would be killer. Microcenter and Frys often have a Q8200-Q8400 from 100 to 125 bucks. A G31 board came free with my q8200, so those might be a good option.

Hi,
Yes I look forward to the performance boost that the new E seris will give.

Many thanks,
