Did any of you guys take plenty of extra classes in community college during high school before entering college? If so, how many classses or credits did you take in CC during high school before entering a four year college? Thanks.

I took no community college classes. However, I did enter college with 9 credits. 6 for german and 3 for math.

Not one. Took a stats AP that I scored a 4 on.
I will take a class next summer....couldnt get into the EMT-B one this summer.

Its not really necessary

if you are still in high school, i would highly suggest taking classes during the summer so that it'll relieve your courseload later on...

pick something like history and government, where there are reading involved but not a lot of applied work and is almost always easy

im doing lit and i have to write a paper every other day 🙁

I enetered with about 40 off of AP exams (8 or 9 exams, IIRC). My friend entered with about 60 credits, 30 from APs and 30 from community college. He's been taking nothing but major courses and will be done with his major at the end of his second year (but he's staying for 4 to try to finish a masters or do some research and study abroad).

good for your friend and for you.

But what i dont understand now is that many people I knew in HS wanted to be done with college in 2 years...why the rush to grow up?

Because they think that life is worth completing as quickly as possible.

Cuz college sucks. A bunch of people acting like they are in high school with more alcohol.

you obviously went to the wrong school, sorry. The vast majority of people like college.

I entered with 19 credits, I could have had more, but I declined to take some of them so I could repeat the class (Calc I and Chem) - I needed good GPA points to keep my scholarship, and wanted to make sure my background was solid (I'm an engineer).

No, its not the college that i didnt like, its the people. Lots of people that have no clue how to live independantly, and lose a whole bunch of morals because its "ok" to do it in college. Bleh. I'll go back and get a degree when its necessary, but theres no way i could live on campus ever again.

I entered with 68 units, but it didn't really affect what I took or didn't take (I didn't have GE requirements). They were all AP credits and a lot of them were just "general" credits that didn't necessarily correspond to a class I didn't have to take. No CC though.

My high school had classes that were called "dual enrolled" - they were college level classes taught by professors at my high school, we'd get both high school and college credit. I earned 36 college credits when I graduated high school.

That's my point (my friend staying for 4 instead of 2). I personally think that if you can graduate early, it's more worthwhile to stick it out 4 years and study abroad or take a breadth of courses you otherwise wouldn't have (or double or triple major)--an extra 2 years in the real world probably won't help that much.

It's the best time of your life. Enjoy it.

I actually took courses at a local university while in high school (UNC-Charlotte). Math, physics, and the like. I took 64 credit hours there, and had 32 AP hours. So I brought in 96 hours into undergraduate school. Of course, the way the "transfer" credits applied and my major (which has six consecutive pre-req courses), it still took me three years to graduate (of course, I got to take courses that I just "wanted" to take and I picked up several minors).

Don't do this to "graduate early". I did it because it interested me. Well, that and when you take calculus in 8th grade, there isn't much left at your high school. And when you get in college, take things that either 1) interest you or 2) will be of use in your career. I took quite a few extra math courses that have benefited me greatly in my PhD work in mechanics..... I also minored in history and literature... which was just interesting to me.
