The other day one of my cats chewed through one of my rear channel cables, so i decided today to go to radio shack to look into getting new wires. Instead of just replacing that one line with the same crappy 24 gauge that is standard, i opted to rewire the whole system with 16 gauge wire. Took a little while to get the solderless mini connectors on the end, but once i hooked it up WOW! Much more midrange and clarity than before, also seems to be a little more powerful. I HIGHLY reccomend this $22 upgrade. Took about 45 minutes to get it all done, but worth it...

thanks for the tip! I am still running on Klipsch promedia 4.00 (very first version). they rock so hard I haven't justified the cost to upgrade to 5.1's or even version 2 4.0's

but this sounds great

As for being a placebo, possibly, but i had both fronts hooked up (one with the stock 24 and one with the new 16 gauge) and i definately could tell the difference... Take that for what its worth, i would like to say i have a good ear...

definetly, the 24 guage was a tad crappy. i also got the 16 guage wire cuz i needed slightly more length to fully hide the wires for the rear surrounds:) sounds good, definetly:)

Yeah, I have the 4.1's and I'll have to move to the middle of the desert before I can use the full potential of the 4.1's without my neighbors calling the police :)

I'm thinking about the same thing...but this relative noob needs advice..
what did you have to do to get the miniplugs attached to the new wire?

thanks much,
SK

The mini plugs have 2 screws on the inside (the miniplugs come apart)... All ya gotta do is strip the 2 wires, feed them into the end of the unit, wrap each one around a screw, tighten, wrap each one with electrical tape (to keep each wire from touching) and then screw the cap back on. The other end just needs to be stripped to fit into the back of the sub. Pretty easy, just takes a little time.. :)

OT- just wanted to say welcome to AT forums SKC. Saw you posted in my thread (classical music) and didn't think about it...

As for on topic, yes my klipsch 4.1's rock hard as well, but I can never turn the main volum dial up past a quarter turn without my desk rumbling and deafening anyone in my suite :(

If you want a REAL mod, open up your pre-amp and replace those op-amps with better ones. I modified my v2-400 preamp by lowering the gain a bit to reduce hiss and by replacing the cheap $0.60 op-amp with a high-quality burr-brown one.
