I'm so sick of hearing about this. On my local CBS affiliate, during the 5:30pm newscast, the GM gave a taped editorial apologizing on behalf of the station and the network, in regards to the Janet Jackson mess. Here's the text of what was said:
I'm so sick of hearing about this. On my local CBS affiliate, during the 5:30pm newscast, the GM gave a taped editorial apologizing on behalf of the station and the network, in regards to the Janet Jackson mess. Here's the text of what was said:
STATEMENT OF ELDEN HALE, V.P. AND GENERAL MANAGER OF WFSB-TV3
The chances are most of you watching me now saw Justin Timberlake rip Janet Jackson's top off during the Super Bowl on Sunday.
It was stupid.
It was embarrassing and we apologize to you and your family for their actions.
WFSB families were also offended by the halftime show.
It's true that WFSB did not know about it and CBS says it did not know about it before the live broadcast. Either one of us would have stopped it.
Jackson and Timberlake now admit to having cooked up the stunt themselves, caught in an obvious lie when they initially proclaimed it was an accident.
Though we like to think the best of people, much of the music industry continues to show us its performers do not have the same standards as most of America.
For this reason we have insisted, and CBS has agreed, to delay the grammy telecast Sunday by a few minutes so we can be sure there won't be any pathetic Jackson-Timberlake like stunt.
Again, although we had no control over the live halftime show, we apologize to you and your family.
Our job is to do everything we can to be sure you and your family will never be embarrassed by what we air, and at WFSB we take that job very seriously.
