Franksta's thread has inspired me to put my own together. This will help me keep track of things as well as bounce ideas off of people.
Last year I moved from a tiny house with a terrible 2 car tandem garage to a much larger/more private house with a 3 car attached garage and some workshop room in the basement.

I do as much of the work on my cars as possible.
In general my tools/shop areas have always been totally unorganized. I can never find anything and sometimes even buy duplicates of tools because I lost the original. Terrible I know. lol
A few years ago my uncle passed away so I inherited a few nice tools/equipment from him. Then just recently my great uncle passed away and I got a LOT more tools/workshop stuff from him. Add that to what I had already and the result was a 3 car garage that I could only fit 1 car in.
Time to do something about it. The goal is to have functional spaces that will meet my needs. I'm about 3 weeks into this project. Still figuring some things out.
There's 3 areas I'll be working on. The garage will be getting most of the attention and then I have a split workshop in the basement (from staircase). One side will be workbenches and wood working tools and the other will have a hobby area and storage.
To do list for garage:
Unbox and organize additional tools/stuff
Add more overhead lighting
Add additional outlets
Add 2nd cord reel between bays (if needed, might hold off)
Tire storage (want to get them off the floor to free up space)
Finish toolbox organization (debating about adding another/better roller drawer unit)
Move mini fridge from office to garage
Some sort of small audio/radio system
Add stools for seating
Add proper top to workbench
Gas heater for the winter
Insulation/Drywall/Paint
Finish floor (not sure what yet)
Possibly add a lift (would require altering doors/track for more height)
Basement:
Organize, Organize, Organize
Work on layout
Add lighting/outlets
Finish off some exposed walls
The garage before I moved in:

The first thing I bought was a cord reel. It's heavy duty and has an led to indicate power. 30' long. Ignore the terrible tape job on the ceiling, that'll get fixed later. There is barely any power/lighting in this garage, so those are areas I've been working on and will continue to improve.

I picked up 8 cabinets from CarGuyGarage. They were nice to work with as they pricematched and even knocked off taxes for me. They were just under $850 delivered for all 8, some assembly required (sorry no pics).

They hang on a rail that gets mounted to the studs, 150 lbs capacity in studs, 50 lbs with anchors only. I have none that were anchors only, most were a combination and I ended up adding some extra support so each has 6 anchors to the wall.
