Is there going to be any problem with using VBR MP3s? Or should I stick with CBR? I am going to be encoding all of my albums and need to know. I care about sound quality, but not as much about file size. If I did CBR I would do 192 and if I did VBR I would probably do 256 peak and 128 lowest

What kind of question is that? Encode VBR and save disk space and fit more MP3s.

Or, just use OGG.

Unless you're really really anal about the sound quality, use VBR. I have to say though that an MP3 encoded at 320 CBR does definitely sound better than a VBR MP3 with 128 base and 320 max, even with LAME doing the encoding.

i encode all of mine at 256k CBR with lame. i am not concerned with space. I have a burner and 30 gigs of hard drive space.

I wish I had the sound hardware to be that anal about the music, but the fact is, I only have a decent setup, so I'm just gonna use -R3mix VBR. I just encoded the first album. only 130 more to go.... :(

I'm telling ya, if you have xp use windows media player 8 to rip them, you'll even get the albumb art when you do, plus you'll save soo much space get quality comparable to 320 (encoding at 192)

Why would anyone use CBR?

Of course it does, 320 KBit base vs 128, what do you expect? Try 256KBit base ABR -r3mix -lowpass 19.5 That's what I use for archive quality stuff.
