CBDTPA - Act NOW! Your freedom is at stake!

I am outraged. And if you live in the US, you should be too.

I can't believe people aren't more worked up over this! We are talking MAJOR changes in the way a lot of people here live their lives. Taking things for granted until someone takes them away is no way to live! Don't think that just because it sounds stupid or ridiculous to you that it has no chance of happening. The entertainment industry is relentless - they will not stop until their agenda is law. It may not come all in one fell swoop with the CBDTPA, but they will continue, a bit at a time, until their goals are acheived. They are counting on one thing - that consumers are too god damned lazy to do anything about it. They're too lazy to write to their legislators, too lazy to try and change anything. They'll just take whatever is handed to them.

RIGHT NOW YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

Until April 8, 2002, the government is asking for citizen comment on this piece of legislation (and other technology-related items). Here's a link to the latest information, a "canned" letter if you are too lazy to write your own, and instructions on how to contact the people who need to hear from you.

Thanks - I saw that thread and thought it would be nice to have a link to a way to make a difference without having to wade through 5+ pages of discussion. I know I don't have the time to sift through all the noise.

The deadline for public comment seems to be April 8th...

<< Act NOW! Your freedom is at stake! >>

This Bill will make it illegal to urinate without some government person holding your dick! ACT NOW, THERE ARE NAZIS IN YOUR CLOSET READY TO ENSLAVE YOU!

<< I can't believe people aren't more worked up over this! >>

I can't believe how anybody can get worked up over this.

<< We are talking MAJOR changes in the way a lot of people here live their lives. >>

If you're saying what I think you're saying then all I have to say is you are more ambidextrous than you know (as are most people) and switching to your left hand should not be that difficult. Hardly Major!!

clarkmo, I'm not sure I understand your point? Or are you the kind of person who just lets stuff happen to them, then come back crying and wishing they had done something (or more likely, that SOMEBODY would have done something, since you aren't a person of action)? Apparently you haven't been keeping up with the game - this stupid proposal isn't going to go away - it IS doubtful that the whole thing would be passed in it's current form, but parts of it will trickle into law, and I guarantee you the world will not be a better place for it.

Freedom doesn't have to be lost all in one fell swoop. A slow, steady, erosion works just fine.

I would just like somebody to tell me in plain english, step by step, how all this nasty stuff is going to occur. And nobody wants to do it. Responding to someone's opinion of someone else's opinion has gotten tiring. Does anyone remember macrovision?Deccs(sp)? XP??Fair Use? And it's clear protection in no uncertain wording in this bill? I don't see any freedom disappearing, sorry. Linux will remain open source. The copyright protection will remain open source .This bill seems to be nothing more than lip service to the entertainment industry...or somebody. I can't figure out who, though. Have you considered that the bill is effectively neutered by the Fair Use inclusion? If I'm wrong, please tell me.
Thanks for listening.
