I own several, but haven't used any of them in the last couple of years. I had one installed in my last car, and used it frequently... but when I traded that car in, I kept the CB and never bothered having it installed in the new car. They're awesome on long road trips... which I've seen significantly less of in the last 2 years.

..still popular among farmers/ranchers for keeping in touch with family and workers plus chit chatting at night. A simple CB base station would be a mobile rig on a power supply or batteries connected to a Antron 99 verticle up aprox.60'.

Its great especially out in the country and really nice to have if you live in areas prone to hurricanes.
CB always works as long as its got power, switch to channel 9 and ask for help.
Our local police and sheriff actively monitor the channel.
There was a hunter here who got saved because of it, he fell out a tree , breaking his leg and cracking his head, used the cb in his truck to get help.

Anybody got a copy on the lighthouse keeper come on?!

Shooting skip off the flatside of a Moonraker6 with a Tram D201A->Sonar 25W class A pre-driver->home brew dual eimac 3-1000Z amp doing 2.5kW PEP calling the long shots in the morning. Melbourne, Bridgetown, Cape Horn! Those guys are coming in here like locals I tell you! Giving me 20 over 9 pounds on the S-meter but your VFO's drifting a little so gotta keep the right hand on the clarifier to keep you from sounding like Donald Duck! Must be that humidity messin' with your slider Mr. Cotton Man!

Oh the D-104 with the classic crystal element was THE key to punching through the QRM from the thundershowers in the mornings. Nothing like whistling in the mic and seeing the tubes in the heater glowing brighter as the lights in the neighborhood grew dimmer! :D

Everything in just the handset.

I know a bunch of people who have those and they like them but you do need an external antenna. We just use the little FRS handsets for offroading. Cheap, no need to install...get crap from some of the old school dudes who use cb's but oh well.

Yeah you will need the antenna....I didn't know of any that didn't require an external antenna.
