Today I'm heading out to a local truck stop to get a new CB antenna for my Explorer. I'm sick of my current magnet mount.. Good antenna, but not exactly what I'm looking for.

Anyway, what kind of reception difference can I expect between a 3 foot and a 4 foot whip? I like the 4ft a little better, but I'm a bit worried that it is a little too tall. Is there any much of a difference between the two lengths?

Wow! It's been a little over 1/2 an hour since I posted, and no one has whined and moaned about a repost! I guess this one's original.. Anyone know 3ft vs 4ft?

Ahh.. I see.. thanks! I don't really do any offroading, so this will be for highway use mainly.

In theory, the longer the whip the better.

The best would be a stainless steel whip that is 108 [if I remember correctly] inches in length. That is how long they all are actually but to shorten them the length is wrapped around a fiberglass rod. The longer and more strait the antenna the better it will perform.

Also, the height over the surrounding area will hinder or help. The higher above the car/truck the antenna reaches the better.

This is all theory and overall performane has hundreds of variables to consider. In your case I doubt you could tell any difference between the antennas.
