Between AMD's misinformation campaign and Green team rumors about AMD cards not even coming until Decemer I'll just wait to see if they actually miss the date.

AIBs have got most of the information for Cayman cards.
According to a graphics card vendor (who does both AMD and NVIDIA cards), the current volume for Cayman cards is more than 10 times as the GeForce GTX 580 cards.

If all goes well, there will be more than 50,000 Cayman XT cards and more than 100,000 Cayman PRO cards available before Christmas.

Quote from Semi Accurate.

Now if rumors amoung AIBs say stuff like that (and its true)... chances of finding a 6970 selling in a shop near you, are probably MUCH better than finding a 580 in a store (before christmas).

You seem to forget that almost everyone believes that nvidia are doing a papir launch.

***IF AMD is holding back the "bios" maybe their waiting until the 9th to determine how high the GPU core Mhz will be set or something, before they launch so they know they ll have their 6970 beat the 580 in performance.

...Of course, it's possible that the launch will proceed as expected, but availability is the key issue at this point.
This if from Fud... not really known for being that reliable (much less so than semi accurate I think). Also if this is about haveing LARGE amounts of finished cards ready by the 22th? what about nvidia that are doing a papir launch, they wont have large amounts of cards either by the time they launch (yet if its a amd issue, its a Fud story, however not if nvidia has same issue?) ?

Fud might have a case actually. I'm hearing similar things that bios is not finalized and its why all the recent AIB slides have not specified a final TDP yet.

But it doesn't mean it won't launch on time. I *believe* they will wait and see what the gtx580 delivers then tweak the bios for extra speed if needed.

Edit: If you speculate further on this, it would mean that AMD is aware the gtx580 is fast and may give Cayman a challenge.

It's just more misinfo campaign at work. You don't help the situation very much by confirming what is most likely BS.
And I for one, have had enough speculation to last 17 lifetimes with all the misinfo. So unless you have something concrete to share, with something to back it up of course, please don't.

Their both rumored to be around 15-20% faster than a 480.
So in all likely hood we ll see something like a 5% differnce between the two, or less.

When was the last time, their was a pricewar at highend cards? usually one company has the performance crown... and they set price. If both have same performance... I think these highend cards will in general be cheaper than last few gens launched high end cards.
