Caution: New AIM comes with WildTangent (Spyware)

When I downloaded and installed AIM, my firewall picked up that AIM was trying to connect to wildtangent*.com. I did a scan w/ spybot and it picked up WildTangent registry keys, and Adaware found a few files...

I saw this too. It's actually in my control pannel. Any way to uninstall it? Or maybe I should just revert to an older version of AIM.

Edit: I am running v5.5.3572

Edit: I am running v5.5.3572

I'm not sure if there is any way to uninstall it, but if you run Adaware/Spybot it should take away all meaning of it.

You can uninstall it via Add/Remove programs. There are three entries for it.

Glad I clicked "Upgrade later" when it asked me.

Once again, you can uninstall it via Add/Remove programs...I did and AIM still works fine. Ad-aware comes up clean.

weird, i dont see wildtangent entries in my add/remove list. running ad/aware now.

EDIT: ran latest ad/aware and no entries found. where did u folks download AIM 5.5 to get the added spyware?

gAIM is also worthy of mention. I tried trillian but didn't like it.

i tried to remove it, it said it couldn't. then when i try to delete the folder it says a file is in use, guess i'll have to reboot and try it.

AOL must need money, I got my first AIM sponsered spam to the email address registered to my screenname last week. At least they included removal instructions. I blacklisted that domain just in case.
