How long before they get bought out by Intel? (assuming they aren't just blowing smoke and actually have something going here)

Looks like slideware at the moment. At best their business model is to be Havok or PhysX and get bought out for having a critically enabling patent or IP portfolio.

No way they are going to be able to put into silicon a raytrace solution that would be performance competitive with whatever Intel is putting into silicon.

If I were a betting man, my guess is these guys got together at a bar after their quant trading algo's crapped up their account balance bigtime in fall 2007, formed a startup on paper with a website and started floating the idea of getting bought out by either NV or ATi when/if the industry gets serious about raytracing.

I don't fault them for such a business plan, quite the opposite, I'm pretty jealous of it.

i doubt they'll make consumer cards as there aren't any games that use ray tracing.

They reckon hardware in April but yeah, delay delay delay and wait to get bought out seems the most likely course of events. Claims of 200 times the performance next year does tend to activate my cynicism somewhat.

Interesting, NV needs this. AMD/ATI does not need this/ Intel does not need this.

OK . You guys need to understand something thats right in front of your faces.

ATI has been working on Globial illumination for along time thats what DX10.1 was all about. Some how its been kept out of games. Intel is working on a form of RAY Tracing . Intels Version is software Render. SO will be ATIs. Intels Goal is to do Real TIME Global Illumination. ATI leads the pack. It just lacks the software games and an operating system supporting DX11. After Software games are available ATI well introduce another card to go along with the present type. The new card will lack a render engine. Those transitors will be replaced with more compute transitors. Thats why there will be 2 cards . ATI has to keep the old render gamers happy. . But Maybe not 2 cards. Since ATI would have full software render capabilities. Will see how that plays out. But ATI is ahead of everone in Globial illumination. Way ahead. Were Intel Has the advantage MAYBE over AMD/ATI will be in the total platiform. When we talk about Raytracing no matter what Miracle add in card you use its ADDED cost and heat and power usage.

CPU's work really really good with raytracing. Now who has the fastest raytracer thats yet to be seen. Who has the best compilers. THats what it comes down to .

Once We have real time Globial illumination for AMD/ATI NV Intel . Its going to comedown to cost . Both AMD AND intel Will Leverage There Cpus TO Run AT MAX when ray tracing. Using the SAME software. NV is still stuck with Cuda. NV is not DX10.1 capable with present arch . Never will be. NV has to go same direction as Intel AMD/ATI or DIE its that simple. When WE talk about RAYTRACING . THE CPU is never EVER out of the conversation ever. Not with multicores. Than when Sandy Has AVX you don't think thats a game changer your highly misinformed . AVX doubles the already very very strong performance of Nehalems RAYTRACING capabilities. Sandy and AVX allows for 2 rays to be cast for AA. You add in Larrebee. So many think Larrabee will be the engine that drives raytracing. Both AMD and Intel Know thats not so, For now the GPU will be a caine for Raytracing. The GPU as we call it will be for compute only and will go ondie or in another socket.

Right now Intel can do 4 issue . With AVX Sandy Maybe we may see an increase to 5 issue. But I don't look for it . But when intel goes to FMA that again doubles The raytracing capabilities of just the cpu. Now Intel says that it can increase AVX to 512 . I suspect they will do this at the same time they introduce FMA That Doubles the raytracing capabilities once again . Thats by 16nm. At the same time intels willincrease the core to at least 6 issue. Intels compiler can do 10 issue. But thing is only one type od core can handle all intel is telling us. Thats an EPIC core. Intels had it for years. Its what AMD hangs its hopes on . Tho both are differant . they both are EPIC. AMD once hated epic aand prayed for its demise . They even conspiered with MS over it. Now they see the error of their ways.

Make no mistake AMDs little GPU is very powerful. AMD just lacks the compilers intel has.

But intels working with ATI on that part.

But will they guarantee 300fps in Quake 3?

Isn't it fun being an old-timer and knowing the jokes the new kiddies have no clue of? :D

Interesting to see who gets this company's IT :p
