Congrats. I had a similar problem when a young squirrl somehow got into my air ducts. Opened a vent, made a simple basket trap with nuts/water, let him go a mile away.
 
Oh well, too bad you didn't kill it. It's going to find its way back into your house the same way he did it the first time!
