It's probably not that you have some dumb look on your face, but you may be close. You may look like your at peace. When I don't want to be bothered, like walking down a city street full of people looking for opportunity, I put myself into a state of concentration and intensity. While maintaining awareness of everything peripherally, I never acknowledge anybody's presence by the slightest outward gesture that I'm aware they even exist. Low hanging fruit gets picked first. Where I spend most of my time I don't need to do that and enjoy talking to strangers.

For me, sometimes adults but always kids and dogs. All over me like lint. I take it as a compliment

You're probably right. I usually have that "not a care in the world" look so people think I don't care if they talk to me...

It happens to me all the time until they realize that I cannot speak well .... I always wish I could chat with them. Go figure...

I'm not quite sure what to make of that analogy... Perhaps it would be easier to say "you looked like easy pickings..." (not that you're prone to clarity...)

djheater, people value things based on what they pay for them. Compare a childs concern with his posessions to the adult who paid for them. It's nice to be clear and all that when you write, but if I ask you to 'pay' attention or 'expend' a bit of mental effort to decipher what I might mean, it could come to pass that you go away with something more than you came with. And easy pickings is an intellectual concept. Low hanging fruit is a visual representation with colorful implications. There are times also when a tree will pack its nutriment in a hard shell. This will discourage opportunistic forriagers and target those more willing to work. And besides, I ams what I ams.
