Some animal came in the animal door and was eating the cats food 2 nights ago, it was chomping loud enough to wake me up. So I went out half asleep and listened for a minute, I couldn't see what it was. But whatever it was was destroying the food and water. I went to get some sort of stick because I thought it was a Racoon (had one come inside a few times last summer) on my way back I could hear my cat on the outside of the animal door making that weird dying sound cats make when they're mad as fuck. Next thing I knew whatever was inside smashed into the animal door trying to get out and my cat took chase. I never did get a clear look at what it was.

I was a bit worried because if it was a Racoon my cat (21lb beast lol) would probably get real fucked up if they did fight. I look out back and didn't see either or hear anything. About 5 minutes later here comes the cat. He goes into my room jumps up on the bed with me and is puring about 3x as loud as I've ever heard him. Giving me this crazy look, acting uber happy. I thought a cat would be cautious near an animal they're not use to being around, but I guess not.

Silly questions but why is your cat outside at night to begin with and why leave the cat door open if you had problems with animals coming in before?

If you know the animals are attracted to the food I suggest you lock it during night to prevent waking up to a raccoon chewing on your nose. ;)
