Catholics/Christians, do you use Napster?

I am curious if any Catholics or Christians use Napster to download copyright music. Wouldn't this be going against one of the commandments (Thou Shall Not Steal)?

I am Catholic, and I use Napster. I bless myself with Holy Water though, and pray on my Rosary. Then I go to Confession after each and every download. ;)

Hey, I never said I was a good Catholic! :p

integrity is one of those deals that you either have it or you don't

people that go to church aren't automatically honest, could be that they just like the appearance of goodliness

Let's see. Over the years I've bought tons of CD's that had one or two good songs I wanted and the rest were crap. The way I see it, I can use Napster with a clear consience for another 5 years while I get back what the record industry stole from me. :p

Just out of curiosity, why do you wonder

<<I am curious if any Catholics or Christians use Napster to download copyright music.>>

That is redudant, we Catholics are christians too, ya know! ;)

And I don't use Napster. Not because of my religion or denomination, but because my university has banned it :p

Edit: Grammatical error.. maybe I should be hitting the books harder.

The other day, a guy at my work was explaining to me about how important it is to follow God's laws.

Later that same day, he was asking if I could get him some some pirated Dreamcast games.

Go figure.

Technically, downloading music isn't really stealing. You're not taking something physical from anybody. You're just getting a huge collection of ones and zeros.. Therefore, I don't think that commandment applies ;)

Yes, I have Napster on my computer. I have a total of (let me go check) 2 songs that I've downloaded using it. I have well over 100 CD's.

Do I feel guilty for downloading those two songs? Nope.

As a Christain, I use Napster.

Record companies steal more from their artists than I ever could from downloading MP3 files. Although I'm not stealing, but distributing.

the ten commandments were a jewish thing, if i remember correctly. there was no record of them prior to when israel was under attack and losing badly. the high priests suddenly discovered "the commandments of moses" in the temple, and said that failure to stick to the commandments was the reason for the loses. there were many more than ten.

a lot of rationalizers here

sin is sin

and denial is another one

Wind Up

When I was young and they packed me off to school
and taught me how not to play the game,
I didn't mind if they groomed me for success,
or if they said that I was a fool.
So I left there in the morning
with their God tucked underneath my arm --
their half-assed smiles and the book of rules.
So I asked this God a question
and by way of firm reply,
He said -- I'm not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays.
So to my old headmaster (and to anyone who cares):
before I'm through I'd like to say my prayers --
I don't believe you:
you had the whole damn thing all wrong --
He's not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays.
Well you can excomunicate me on my way to Sunday school
and have all the bishops harmonize these lines --
how do you dare tell me that I'm my Father's son
when that was just an accident of Birth.
I'd rather look around me -- compose a better song
`cos that's the honest measure of my worth.
In your pomp and all your glory you're a poorer man than me,
as you lick the boots of death born out of fear.
I don't believe you:
you had the whole damn thing all wrong --
He's not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays.

It is interesting to note that lack of morals appears to transcend religious belief. Thieves come from all Denominations.

It's too bad you b@stards don't live in Saudi Arabia. There they chop your hand off if you're caught stealing :|:(

Maybe we need some tough love like that here in the U.S., to counter this new generation of petty thieves that try to rationalize their actions :p
