Catholic council hits out at Rajasthan anti-conversion law

The consultative body underlined: ?Christians live in fear and uncertainty. The population is losing confidence in the government, that does not curb the violence and approves restrictive laws.?

Bangalore (AsiaNews/ICNS) ? An important Catholic group has called on the government of Rajasthan to reject the anti-conversion law ?to help Christians to live better and to practice their faith without restrictions?.

The Executive Committee of the Catholic Council of India met in Bangalore on 24 April to discuss the recent approval of the decree and expressed ?serious concern over difficult situations in which Christians live in the western state?.

The members of Rajasthan?s tiny Christian community [0.11% of the population] ?have been victims of several cases of attacks and harassment by fanatic Hindu groups in 2005.? In response, the government, ?instead of arresting anti-Christian violence, passed a bill on April 7 aimed to check Christian missionary activities in the villages?.

Hindu fundamentalists charge that ?Christian missions spend their time luring poor and tribal people to their religion, using material offers? like food and clothes. ?The anti conversion bill has eroded people's confidence in the administration,? continued the committee members.

The statement of the group, led by Cardinal Telesphore Toppo, adds: ?Christians in several places in India live in fear and have sought police protection for their Sunday gatherings and other programs.?

The Executive Committee of the Catholic Council is a consultative body. Its members come from all sectors of the Church: bishops, priests, religious and lay people. Its aim is to assess the situation of the Indian Church and to draw the attention of the concerned bodies to neglected areas.

Such behaviour should be condemned, especially, when it occurs under the approval of the state. It is a blemish on the image of a secular India and a negation of freedom of religion.

Asadasif, can you please tell me what happened to all the minorities in your 'secular' nation of Pakistan????

Also I fail to see how banning conversions could hurt christians????

Did India outlaw christianity? NO

Did India outlaw conversions ? A BIG NO.

What it outlawed was conversion by fraudulent means. If an individual converts himself, no problem, but if he was pressurized to convert by fraudulent means, then the law is applicable.

By the way where is the link for the article???

Let me give it to you:

Link

This from a website which quotes, in its heading "Asia : our common task for the third millenium" :disgust:

OF course the church will protest, they stand to lose everything (including funding from the U.S.) if they are prevented from converting poor gullible people.

Asadasif, my question still stands:

WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THE MINORITIES OF YOUR COUNTRY ????

I ask you that question\, only because your heart bled so much for the minorities around the world. The truth is that you have never given me the answer, but it does not matter. The world knows of the same i.e your nation has massacred or driven away almost the entire minority community from its borders.

And you dare to point fingers at India, where minorites are first class citizens and Hindus are relegated to second class ones.

But I'am not surprised at your behaviour. Your nation has been engaged in hypocritical doublespeak ever since we threw her away.

Yeah, that's why there are so many riots and massacres in India all the time. Remember Gujrat? It's just one of many events highlighting the fact.

Tell you what, Braznor, I won't repond to you in this thread from now on. I don't really care for what you say and neither is my health affected by your posts. I have better things to do than appeasing children. I have posted many posts in other threads and your attitude has been the same.

If you are really up for a civilized discussion, go respond to the Pakistan/India joint IPR over basmati rice thread. That can be a good discussion, if so desired.

You will not respond because you have nothing to say, my dear. Nothing but lies. All the riots in India have the common circumstance of Muslims sowing the wind and reaping the whirlwind.

When you put up a topic in this forum, you will get replies and some of them will be unpleasant. You are behaving like a child by throwing tantrums
