Giving up sovereignty to become a part of a larger "community" means you give up some tradition and culture as well. Perhaps it's a small price to pay to become part of an organization that will some day have a foreign policy rivaling that of the U.S.

How about they include references about the Church not doing anything about or covering up for priest who molest little boys and girls ? Certainly that is not something which is not only relegated to the 16th century.
