If I were Porsche, I'd be pissed too if a cheaper SUV that was developed with the Cayenne looked 10x better, had a better interior, and had a stump pulling 310 HP V-10 diesel :D

*GASP* I actually AGREE with you for once :)

Cant wait till my dad gets one, and gives his passat to my mom :D

Hehe, the Touareg looks pretty damn spiffy. I don't know what the hell Porsche was smoking when they designed the Cayenne...they must be sharing a bad batch of crack with GM :D

VW needs a better name for that. Touareg is probably the worst name for anything I've heard in quite a while.

Yeah its definatly going to have people wondering about how to say it. Same with the Phaeton.

That article is kind of dumb, in my opinion, saying how the VM is "competition" for the Porsche. I guarantee that no one who is considering a Cayenne would all of a sudden say "hey! I should get a VW instead!" That's like saying a Chrysler competes with a Mercedes.

Well, you have to consider that Cayenne was built not only to cater to Porsche enthusiasts, but also to bring the brand to more 'mainstream' upscale families of four or more. I don't think the Cayenne will do well beyond their traditional Porsche enthusiast market. Basically, the people looking at a Cayenne in the dealership will be choosing between Cayenne and the 911...not Cayenne and another luxo-ute.

Considering that they both have luxurious interiors, they both have uber powerful engines, both use essentially the same drivetrain, and both are relatively quick, and that VW is going after a higher market sector, I think that they WILL end up competing. Especially the V-8/V-10 Touareg and Cayenne.

I think that the Touareg will be a great success. Why? Because it looks awesome, is a great performer, SUV's are popular, and people are obviously already willing to spend copious amounts of money on them. The VW image is definitely getting better; I see more and more Passats around every day. The Touareg will sell well, provided the SUV fad doesn't go in the toilet.

Any guess as to what the MSRP is going to be on the VW? Looks like a pretty nice car, and that monster V10 diesel apparently gets close to 20mpg on the highway. :Q

The V-10 diesel Touareg gets 24MPG!!! :Q:Q Even more reason to choose it over the fugly Cayenne.

As for price:

But the U.S. arm of VW says we can expect suggested retail prices that "range from the low to mid $30,000 to about $60,000."

OK, I'm going to be the lone dissenter and say that I think the Cayenne looks pretty nice (aside from that massive front bumper which needs to be re-worked). Also, it's not like this is the first time that VW has screwed Porsche. The 914 was originally a joint venture, and went along well until VW doubled the price of the unit bodies to Porsche. The 914-6 went from being a $2,000 car to a $3,500 car all from VW jacking up the price of the unit body. The 924 was developed entirely for VW, but VW canceled the project at the last minute, leaving Porsche with a car that they had put too much work into not to sell somehow. Same story with the 944. You would think that by now Porsche would have learned.

Actually, the V-10 diesel is doing the "stump" pulling. 525 lb-ft of torque is a meaningless figure unless it's attached to an engine :D Also, when someone mentions diesel, you should AUTOMATICALLY think torque anyway.

I still have to disagree. If it's a person in a position to buy a Porsche, they won't buy a VW *instead*, end of story. I don't care if it has a "better interior", more power, whatever.

Now, if they were faced with the choice of a Cayenne, MDX, X5, Escalade, etc, then that's something different. I'm just saying I know some Porsche owners, and they sure as hell wouldn't pick the VW just because it's a "better value".

Hey I'm getting 570 out of my Gas SB ;) Stock 5.3 + Whipple alone is 500, I just did some exhaust intake and PCM programming to add a few more ;)

Diesel gets forced induction, I figure hey meee tooo!! ;) I just don't get their milage and cheaper fuel cost :(
So I do like the Die better ;) (In trucks/large vehicles that is)

And the equally impressive 420 HP W-12 that will arrive in a year.
