Our credit card number was stolen from an online computer store and to make a long story short the idiot purchased gift certificates and we were sent 'thank you' notices for sending 'so&so' gift certificates. I called the company and talked my way into finding out who these gift certificates were sent to. Now we have their mailing address and want them fined, jailed, whatever they do to people who steal credit card numbers!!! what do we do now? who do we contact with this address? btw, the person is way on the other side of the country so it's not like i can stop by the police station on the way to work.

contact the credit card company and tell them your card number was stolen and used. that way they can reverse the charges to your card. then explain that you have the information about who stole the number and how you got it and that you want them prosecuted to the full extent of the law. that should do it.

I'd try calling up their local police station. Contact my credit card company to straighten things out. I'd give the sites below last priority since they're a PITA to fill out and they take a while for a response.

First of all, the odds of you having their real address are astronomical. No one would be stupid enough to send these things to their real address. They probably sent them to some elderly couple and then went over to their apartment and said that one of their letters was accidently sent to their address. That or one of the million other ways. Good luck.

I completely agree. Except that the information you have isn't necessarily the details of the criminal. Just turn it over to the CC company and be done with it.

Exactly what spendthrift says. Why waste your time doing the legwork? The credit card company has direct access to every law enforcement agency in the country. All you can ever be liable for is $50 and I've never seen anyone who was for a false charge.

Don't you just love credit cards:)
