I just finished reading this book for the second time, and I still love it. Has anyone read some of J.D. Salinger's other works? Any recommendations?

I love that book. I don't understand why such a great literary work can be on the "Banned Books List."

I remember reading that book freshmen year in high school. Never have I detested a book like I have Catcher in the Rye.

Holden Caulfield's dialogue throughout the entire play grated every one of my nerves. His constant vulgarity and language, IMO, took a lot out of the book.

In this case: "[A little] less is more."

Edit: Sorry. I hope this post doesn't seem to inflammatory, but the book just rubbed me the wrong way.

Off topic, but I read White Fang waaayy back in 7th grade and strangely enough its one of my favorites.

knight, you're missing the whole point. salinger has been dubbed "ingenious" by some critics because of his use of language and vulgarity. hell, that was the way they spoke, why should he not incorporate that into his book? just to keep it clean? it's not like he was gonna ask disney to publish his book.

If you liked Catcher In The Rye, check out "Nine Stories", also by J.D. Salinger.

CITR is also one of my favorite novels--I think that those of us who love the book do so because we can identify with Holden. I know I do anyway.

I felt the same way when I read it, almost angry, but my girlfriend at the time read it as well and she obviously "got it" where I missed the whole point. I immediately read it again after our discussion and enjoyed it the second time around.
