Hello everyone. New to the forum. Nice to meet you all. Guess I'll jump right in.
I'm having a strange problem I can't figure out. I've put my latest system together using the parts below. When I use just one memory stick everything loads great. When I use both sticks in dual mode it crashes during the loading of the OS. After hours of reading this forum and trying different things like trying all kinds of memory settings (tested to death with memtest-86), turbo mode on and off, auto settings, manual settings, etc I gave up and RMA'd the board back to Newegg. I received a replacement mobo 1 week later and I still have the same exact problem. Watching the Post everything looks good. The memory is at the right speed and passes the test fine so I decided to disable everything in the bios like the onboard network, sound, etc and guess what? It loaded right up. I turned on one thing at a time and rebooted each time and everything worked great until I enable the onboard sound. Crashed at the same place. I disabled it again and it booted fine. I downloaded the latest Soundmax driver from Asus but no help. It loads just fine with one memory stick but when I put in the second it crashes. Btw I did rotate the sticks to dbl check to see if one stick was bad but no change. I'm at a loss. Any help greatly appreciated.
P4C800 Deluxe (latest bios v1016.001)
P4 3.0 ghz
Radeon 9800 Pro (Catalyst 4.3)
Kingston valueram 512 x 2 ddr400 (listed on their tested memory page)
Win 98se (patched to death)
Thanks, Bullseye22
