Have any of you met or heard Frank Abagnale speak at an event?

I'm attending a dinner at the La Meridien Hotel in Minneapolis where Frank Abagnale is the honored guest for a Network Security Dog and Pony show. Looks like it'll be an interesting event. Business Dress, Jacket required... Oh - and if any of you other MN's are going to be there, say so!

Here are some links regarding Frank Abagnale:

If you've met, seen heard him in person, what did you think?

I know someone who heard him speak well before the movie came out. I'm sure its not as good now since everyone knows the story, but I bet it will still be enjoyable.

When is it? You neglected this important information, so I had assumed that it was last night.

Sorry about that omission :). It's on the 20th. (Wednesday).

I was kind of wondering that myself (whether his material is dated or retread by now) but reading up on the guy I'm surprised how much he did that wasn't even touched on in the movie. Interestingly, his expertise is proven to be even more applicable and crucial in today's environment than back then.

Well, we'll find out Wednesday night anyway! :D

I heard him speak several years ago about computer security and identity theft, way before it was such a big deal. He was dead on - nailed it. Smart guy. Listen to what he says because he knows what he's talking about.

The night was great!

Atmosphere and dinner were superb. The La Meridien is one upscale place.

Frank Abagnale is an extraordinary individual. He himself says the movie "Catch me if you can" puts a Hollywood spin on the reality of his life, but to hear the details which were not broached in the movie leaves you in even more awe and wonder than a movie could.

Make no mistake thinking his escapades as a youth are either irrelevant or ineffective today. His grasp on identity fraud and technology challenges even the most established of today's organizations. His is a phenomenal mind.

It was an excellent experience. We had our photographs taken with Mr. Abagnale, we received a quality tin with his book and a DVD of the movie inside, he signed autographs and shook hands. Perhaps my most vivid memory of the evening however, was his challenge of being an individual of integrity, of dedication to family and the unashamed and undaunted expression of his faith.

There was the requisite sale's shtick from Novell, though I will say their part and parcel was more a show of appreciation and support than of selling and product unveiling.

For an IT Security dinner I expected something quite different. Regaling associates and co-workers the hi-lights of what actually took place creates quizzical looks and dubious expressions. A technology engagement that is both enjoyable and inspiring toward not only technology but integrity in life as well. I wouldn't believe it myself had I not been there and enjoyed the experience first hand.

And had he not signed my book,

'God Bless',

Frank W. Abagnale
