I just got back from my PD after submitting video evidence.
They left fast ... when they saw my camera.

desperate times ahead ...

I've heard about a rash of catalytic converter thefts from parked cars in the next city over - particularly from Toyota Prius's. Allegedly, they are relatively easy to access in that vehicle.

Local neighborhood fb page has been highlighting that recently. They roll up next to your car and are gone in 5 min.

The officer says they are worth $3,000 ( for the above car )
My car is not so expensive.
However, it's an old one... with precious metals ( $200 )

Got my starter stolen within a few days of owning my truck. What pisses me off is how thieves get away with it. The law does not really care to stop them. If you try to stop them you're the one that gets in trouble. Still though I wish I had caught them in the act.

I remember hearing lot of stories of theft during the Great Recession. My friend had his catalytic converter cut and stolen from his parked SUV at AMC theater parking lot while they were inside watching a movie.

I was lucky. They got spooked and left.
They were very " comfortable " with what they were doing ..

Hopefully the detective acts quickly.

Thieves don't care and they know nothing happens even if they get get caught. There's lot of videos of thieves here since they are out nightly and even have day shifts now as lot of it happens in broad daylight too, and sometimes they even steal right in front of cops. There's even one video where the thief was being called out by a passer by since he was trying to get into someone's house window, he just give the guy the finger and kept working on getting in. In most of the videos you can tell how they just take their time and they just walk around care free. The only way they will stop is if something actually happens to them. I really do hope that someone with nothing to lose eventually gives one of them a good beating. Probably end up in jail for that though.

During that time, 2 of my neighbors got hit. One at a local tire shop, the other in a Costco parking lot...both within a couple of blocks of each other.
