As always, the day after I install a driver, a newer one comes out. Got my XT yesterday... and wanted to try it out, and didnt want to wait. Oh well, only takes a few mins to install new drivers.

Aw man..where's the Black and White 2 fix? :( :)

From the recent B&W2 patch readme;
- Added: Extra optimisations to utilise ATI's latest GPUs. In our test cases, we found an increase of about 27% on an X850 XT, and about 24% on a 9800 Pro.

Im a bit confused with this statement. They report some pretty good gains, but not with "ATI's latest GPUs", like they said it helps. Anyhow, perhaps try that.

You can DL Cat uninstaller @ ati.com

then install the newer ones

or

DL driver cleaner

boot up on safe mode

install the new drivers

I never did either of these...I just install the whole package and install express it (meh i'm lazy)

Get the lastest Driver Cleaner from drivercleaner.net
Uninstall, Ati Display Driver, CCC and Uninstall utility from add/remove.
Restart and go into safe mode
Run driver cleaner
restart in normal mode and install the latest driver

This is the anal retentive way of doing it :)

Quick 'n dirty way - \Program Files\ATI Technologies\UninstallAll\AtiCimUn.exe

That'll zap everything, including utilities like ATi Tray tools if they're installed. But you can hit 'cancel' when their uninstaller comes up if you want to keep 'em.

Bummer :(

What was wrong with it?

Either the GPU or maybe a RAM chip went bad. I think the cooler may have been poorly installed. It was fine the first night I really did anything with it, but started artifacting in 3D the next night after about an hour of gaming, then very consistently within about 1/2 hour of gaming use after a cooldown period. So I believe something suffered some heat damage.

If you were to see a X1900XL listed in the .inf file that would mean that they are close to releasing that model(if they ever do).

So I finally got my x1900xt doday, ran some benches - ~4800 in 3dmark06, and ~10700 in 3dmark05. My question is without installing the CCC/.Net, is there any way to adjust settings? I tried Ati Tray Tools, but the app won even start up because it doesnt recognize the card.

There should be a new version of ATi Tray Tools coming, if it's not already here.

Uninstall ATT, and reinstall - in the option box that comes up during installation, disable overclocking. It'll stop barfing after you do that.
