Catalyst ok for newer ATI cards?

i ordered an x800xl for a system im biulding, but i dont konw whether to use the new catalyst drivers or not. i read they worked wonders for older cards, but doesnt do much for newer ones. could it hurt?

It works no worries. It gave me nice boosts in fps for many games.
