Catalyst Color Correction being reset by games

I just built a new computer with an ATI X850XT Platinum Edition, I downloaded the 5.3 drivers from the ATI site, and installed them. My monitor that I'm using is pretty old and has issues with brightness, so I have to jack the brightness up with the drivers to be able to see anything. My old computer used an Nvidia card and the brightness settings on the desktop manager for that was fine. The Catalyst Control center doesn't seem to be as reliable, as when I run a game, the color corrections are completely reset. I put the brightness settings for both the Desktop and the Fullscreen 3D, when I run Call of Duty (my test program for now), its all reset back to default and the game is dreadfully dark. I leave the game and also the brightness settings in Windows is reset, I have to open Catalyst again and move the slider a bit and it puts everything back. I'm running the latest version of Direct X (9.0c), could someone please help?

use your monitor to increase brightness instead? or type /r_gamma 1 in the Call of Duty console since it's a Quake 3 engine game. Keep increasing (1.xx thru 3.00 gamma) until the brightness is satisfying.

"My monitor that I'm using is pretty old and has issues with brightness,"

Its up all the way. What will I do for non-Quake 3 engine games? I didn't buy an X850XT to play Call of Duty forever... I need my HL2.

As far as solutions go, I was hoping for a solution on how to make the Catalyst software actually brighten up games.

EDIT: I tried the /r_gamma thing, same as the brightness control in the game options... I have to have it like all the way up and its still pretty dark, and its really grey because of the complete lack of contrast. I just need the Catalyst to work in my games.

If games directly control gamma (such as Quake 3 based ones) then neither nVidia nor ATi will force control panel values.

No, with r_gamma you can use values outside of the range of the slider.

Tried that and it did nothing, only went to 3. Even if it was so, it doesn't change the fact that it would look like ass because there are no contrast settings.
