Catalyst and DX9 Q:

So within a week or so I'll be getting a new rig at work. 😛
P4 2.8c
ATI 9600 Pro
bla bla bla

It comes with WinXP but our company has not approved XP yet so they wipe everything clear and installs Win2K. I am afraid that out techs will just let Windows take care of the driver issue and install some generic driver. Usually they don't even install Service Packs 🙁
So it looks like I have to tweak my rig on my own.
What should be installed first? DX9 or Catalyst drivers?

😎

Ive heard different things, but IMO it doesn't make a difference. Ive done both before, eitherway works. Id probably install Catalyst drivers first, but like I said, it really doesn't matter.

DX9 First. DEFINATELY.

It harms nothing that way around, but the other way around the Cats will complain / will not work with anything requiring DX until DX9 is installed.

Btw, sounds like a rubbish IT Dept. I am in an IT Dept and we install all latest service packs, patches, latest drivers for workstation graphics cards etc etc. Plus on media machines also install quicktime and the divX bundle. Your company's IT dept needs a kick up the bum 😛
