catalyst 8.10 installer crashing PC

So I installed new 4850 in my computer, and when I tried installing cat 8.10 the install will completely lock up my computer, no ctrl-alt-del, have to restart manually

it happens when trying to detect hardware. it starts the progress bar and then everything just freezes.

i've tried the package, just the display driver and just CCC and it's the same result everytime. correct vista 64bit drivers, previous drivers were removed from control panel and i ran driver sweeper in safe mode, etc.

any ideas short of format/reinstall?

You could try a system restore to before you removed the old drivers and ran driver sweeper. Then try the drivers that came with the card.

Don't use driver cleaning programs. They can cause as many problems as they cure. Many people will disagree.
