S.T.A.L.K.E.R seems to run better under vista using the 7.4's over the 7.2's and 7.3's...still not up to the performance of WinXP but it's getting closer.

This card has been out for 6 months.

never, regular catalyst is not for mobile chipsets.

Mod the inf to work on the mrx1700, did it for my mrx700 for both 7.3 and 7.4, works great.

I seem to be getting better stability out of these than with the 7.3s in Vista 64. I was ending up with the driver randomly restarting in Aero every few hours or so with 7.3. 7.4 has been rock solid all of last night so far.

Can any body tell me if 7.4 has fixed the X1050XT 256 BSOD issue? It isnt listed as a resolved issue and it isnt beig listed as a iknown issue either. I am becoming a bit agrivated. I havnt gotten to get alot of use out of my card in several months now and im afraid by the time they fix it the card will be dead.
Thanks.

Hopefully this driver package will actually contain an updated INF for mobility 9x00 series chips. Cat 7.3 did not actually update the driver for those devices.

This statement is simply incorrect.

[edit] I take this back. When 7.1 and 7.2 came out, they supported the mobility chipsets (I'm running cat 7.2 direct from ATI with no problems right now). However, if you go to the site now and choose a mobility chipset, it now sends you to a kb article stating that the OEM must provide drivers.

7.3 Screwed up my CCC in vista real bad. I haven't been able to fix it at all. Keeps telling me to install the Standard VGA driver first. I do that and it says the same thing. Maybe these ones will fix it for me.

Some additional stuff has to be in driver to support mobile (POWERPLAY for example -> for optimization of battery life). IMO, modded drivers are too buggy to be used for laptops, it is better to use loder yet stable driver that laptop manufacturer puts on the website..you'll see some unexpected behavior, such as crashing, not handling well sleep mode, etc... the drivers are not meant for laptops.

I think they added mobile support for the 7.1 and 7.2 Vista cats so there would at least be a reference driver available to use for those cards. Usually, it's up to the vendor to provide such drivers.

The Cat 7.2s, which had info for mobility chipsets in the INF direct from ATI have support for all of this with no problems (at least for mine). I wish they'd kept it going.

installed 7.4 driver without ccc worked fine on win xp but hardly tell any noticeable performance gain with any games.

And you are not going to be finding any now or in the future for the X800/x850 series. Ati's focus now is on the X1000 generation and getting Windows Vista drivers fixed up! And soon to be released R600 and its high/medium/low cards.

What do these drivers do for XP users? I haven't kept up with the driver changes and have just stuck with 6.6. I briefly tried 7.1 a while ago, found that it was causing long loading times in an older game I play a lot, and reverted back to 6.6.

it takes 3 reboots to try em CP5670... if u dont like em u can go back... but they fix many 7.1 issues... at least they are more stable even on xp
