Improved shader compiler and transform engine optimizations have led to many significant performance gains in OpenGL applications across the entire Radeon® X1000 series of products. These include:

* Doom 3 performance improves as much as 6.5%
* Quake 4 (v1.2 or higher) performance improves as much as 18%
* Chronicles of Riddick performance improves as much as 20%. Average improvements of 5-10% are commonly seen
* Prey performance improves as much as 16%

Nice :)

Now divide the claimed performance improvements by 3, and you have a more realistic number ;)

But nonetheless, improvements are always welcome. If these are better than the 6.7's, I'll likely upgrade to them.

you need to learn how to count :p

after 6.9 its 6.10, then 6.11, 6.12, and then 7.1

you forgot:

Call of Duty 2 performance improves as much as 30% on single ATI Radeon® X550 cards or higher with 256MB of video memory at 1280x1024 and higher when anti-aliasing enabled. The largest gains are found on the ATI Radeon® X1800 series and ATI Radeon® X1900 series of products

well sometimes there can be a 6.13. We had a 5.13 last year when ati broke its monthly release cycle and released a 5.13 very late in 2005.

They only did that because they needed an official driver to support the new x1900 series.

according to a thread at rage3d.com (can't find the thread atm), the ati developers are aiming to permanently incorporate the chuck patch for 6.9. hence, they've stopped putting resource into releasing chuck patches since 6.7.

wow those increases in open gl stuff seem almost suspicious. Though actually probably only at very specific settings.

I have a weird one... in the CCC information center 6.8 shows as 6.7
I reinstalled after using DCpro just in case, still shows 6.7

Its a bug. sireric (an employee at ATI) has confirmed this, its a small bug where it displays 6.7 instead of 6.8. Changing it would require re-WHQL.

Thanks Sc4freak, I was hoping it would turn out to be something like that.

not real exciting: The greatest performance improvements happen along the entire stretch of resolutions without AA/AF.

According to an interview I read the Chuck patch should be integrated into the September or October drivers.

6.6, 6.7, and now 6.8: even though they say they support AFR mode for oblivion, they're still significantly slower than 6.6 Beta (chuck) for me. I wonder to what extent the chuck drivers have optimizations cos they help so damn much. Seems like 6.6 beta with HDR+4xAA is faster than all the regular ones with only HDR... Again, with AFR mode enabled. I hope making the drivers official doesn't bog down the chucky performance.

Edit: 6.8 chucks are out! Link

Again, thanks chuck ;) -- whereever you are (prob @ ATI)
