Catalyst 5.12 with Control Panel (no CCC)

how did u find this so we can know for further release. i tried but i cant seem to find how to get there anywhere on the site.
 
.net is not that bad.....well, at least .net2.0 is not......try it, it speeds up the CCC a lot. really it does.
but thank you spice daddy all the same..........

They're under Drivers->Windows XP->FireMV...

They probably won't continue adding Radeon features to the CP though (especially for X1K series), but they're fine for now, especially for older cards. 🙂

At least it gives us a break until ATI makes a CCC I can tolerate, or maybe they'll just give up on CCC altogether... 😉

unlikely. CCC is a much better option compared to CP for most non-anandtech members 🙂
As much as we dont want to admit it, the majority of consumers don't know what AA/AF do, and the CCC helps show them.
 
Features such as Adaptive A-A and High Quality A-F aren't available on the Control Panel, if I am not mistaken.

Personally, I installed the "Driver Only" package, and then installed ATi Tray Tools, which supports everything with the X1K series, except for over-clocking (you need to disable over-clocking during the installation process of ATi Tray Tools if you're using any GPU of the X1K series to avoid issues).

I did try the CCC package with Catalyst 5.12, and I can confirm it is faster to some extent than it was with 5.10 or 5.11.

But I still prefer not to have CCC nor CP installed. I only use ATi Tray Tools. It packs everything you need, and barely uses any resources. Plus, you don't need to let it run in the background for the changes to apply, since the changes are applied in the Registry. So once you configure the whole thing, you can terminate its process in your Task Manager, and voila, you're all set.
 
It appears there will be no Catalyst 5.13 with Control Panel (instead of Control Center.)

5.12 wasn't listed either but links people posted on the internet pointed to ATI Customer Care > Drivers and Software > Windows XP > FireMV > FireMV 2200 > Previous Drivers and Software >

where Catalyst 5.12 Display Driver with Control Panel (instead of Control Center) was "hidden" by ATi.


Why is Control Center "bad" besides using up too many resources that noticeably slow down many systems:

1. Control Center cannot start if cli.exe is not allowed to access the internet (!) What happens if you lose your internet connection?

2. If ATICCC is disabled from starting every time you boot up "to start it only when you need it," you need to double click on cli.exe (C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\cli.exe) FIRST,
then let it load and access the Internet to be able to THEN start the Control Center.

Just FYI.


What effects/improvements/setbacks do these latest drivers have on "older" cards such as the 9600XT?
