Catalyst 5.11 Performance Boost for x800 Series?

Ok, so I heard about a 35% performance boost in OpenGL with the upcoming Catalyst 5.11 in November. I also heard that this will only affect the newest x1800 series. I don't understand how it can only work with the newer cards when they optimized Doom 3 to run 35% faster with the older ATI x800 cards, or maybe I am wrong.

I would be happy if someone could clarify this for me, seeing how I have an x800xl🙂

The performance gain from 5.11 on the x800 series is rougly 3-5% They revamped the 5.11's acording to the architecture on the x1800 series so it does not improve that much on the x800 series. You can try for yourself and download the beta version of 5.11's

The boost in comes mainly form tweaking the programmable memory controler on the x1800. The x800 doesnt have a programmable mem controler, so dont expect any big boost.

The latest 5.10a beta drivers gave me an 8-10 FPS increase in Quake 4 timedemo. Fairly substantial (from 33 - 41/43)

Edit: X800XL AGP. Linked in sig
