I'm using a Radeon 9600se (I know its a sucky card but its all I have for now) connected to a Zenith C32V37 through a DVI cable. With the Catalyst 4.8 drivers I'm able to force 720p support under the advanced/display tab but the overscan is so bad that I can barely see the start button in XP. I've been looking for a way to set my own custom resolutions and timings but so far it does'nt appear to be a way to acheive it. Anyone have suggestions on how to eliminate the overscan on a HDTV? Should I use powerstrip or should I upgrade to the 4.9 Catalyst drivers?

Thanks for any suggestions

Well, Powerstrip is probably the easiest way to force truly 'custom' resolutions. If you're having overscan issues, you might also try tweaking things on the TV side in the service menu (but that is beyond the scope of this post AND forum).

You might have better luck with this question on a more HT-centric forum, like www.avsforum.com or www.hometheaterspot.com.

Heh, a bit like what happened to me a day ago. I was at a friend's apartment, had a spare DVI cable, and decided to hook my comp up to my friend's 46" HDTV Toshiba. It set my screen to a resolution of 720x480, but the screen was split in half. We tried using powerstrip to move the screen, and managed to get it in place at one point, but were having a hard time getting it to fill the entire screen's width. It looked smushed.

Catalyst drivers custom timing support utility is limited to YPbPr presently, and it itself is a work in progress...another vote for Powerstrip. Karnis's guide at AVS is actually geared more toward 1080i timings but may give you some insight, find it in the HTPC FAQ in the HTPC forum (I think I saw your post in there)
