Catalyst 4.10 BETA Questions

So I went ahead and installed the Catalyst 4.10 BETA (aka 8.07) drivers that are linked from Futuremark's driver page. My 3DMark05 score went from 2326 to 2438 instantly. Not too bad. :)

Now I'm wondering about the new AI feature I've been reading so much about. Supposedly this can only be enabled in the Catalyst Control Panel (which I am not too fond of). Strangely, the BETA 4.10 drivers do not seem to include a new CCC. The installer only gives you two options -- the driver itself, and the old ATI Control Panel. After uninstalling the 4.9s, rebooting in safe mode, running Driver Cleaner and installing the 4.10 BETAs, I ended up with the old-style ATI Control Panel in place.

So is there a way to enable AI in these drivers? There are no new options in the old-style control panel, as expected. I tried installing the CCC that comes with the older Cat 4.9s, but of course there are no AI options to be found there either. I'm assuming AI is disabled by default?

Oddly, my Doom3 framerate was exactly the same with the two drivers -- until I tried removing the humus tweak. With the 4.9s, removing the tweak resulted in a performance hit of ~7 fps. But with the 4.10s, after I removed the humus tweak my fps shot up by 3.5 fps! Odd indeed. So with the 4.10 and no tweak, I'm up to 47.6 FPS on the timedemo -- the best score I've seen yet on this machine (1024x768, High Settings, 0xAA 16xAF).

My other question relates to refresh rates. I've been using RefreshForce to overcome the XP limitation of 60Hz in OpenGL games. For some reason, with the 4.10 drivers RefreshForce seems to have stopped working. I have run the program three times but I'm still stuck at 60Hz. Any ideas?

The 8.07 driver was specifically optimized for Doom 3. They did a lot of work on it so it should be higher.

As for the refresh rate, make sure you've selected the correct monitor? The primary monitor, and it should also say [ACTIVE].

After installing these drivers for my 9800 Pro, I saw small improvements in most of the games I play, including Doom 3 and Far Cry.

I've heard that with the new 8.07 beta driver, the Humus tweak is no longer needed and may actually make D3 run slightly slower.

I did notice a pretty major bug with these beta 8.07 drivers in the Far Cry Patch 1.2 (yes, I know they were recalled, but the patch works fine on my 9800). If I enable Geometry Instancing, major graphical glitches occur everywhere. This never seemed to happen with the CAT 4.9s; does anyone else have this problem?

if the 4.10s really fixed a bug tying up the extra 128mb RAM in 256mb cards, it is exciting news. 3dmark may be the first indication of that newly unbridled power.

i also noticed that the humus tweak enhanced the 4.9s. if the 4.10s don't like it, I'd be more than happy to remove it.

I did make sure it was the active monitor. Just to be safe, I also ran it on the other two listed, and tried setting everything back to default and then changing it again. Nothing seemed to work.

Finally I got it fixed by using a totally different program, called RefreshFix. It rebooted my computer without asking me, which was kind of annoying, but it did fix the problem.

Still no answer on how to enable AI in these drivers....?

AI is enabled by default and at the low setting. CCC simply allows disabling or changing to high.

Is a BETA version of the new CCC with these options available for download anywhere? I'm surprised it doesn't come with the 4.10 BETA installer.

http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/4649.html this is the link to do off of ati, even tho its a fix for the games, its still teh drivers

As I said in the first post of this thread, I downloaded and installed those drivers. The drivers linked from that page do not include the new CCC.

That's what I'm asking about -- where do I get the new CCC? Anybody know?

This driver is supposed to increase teh performance of ati card wtih 256 mb of ram, since there was a problem managing the increase in ram esp in the x800 cards. Thats the purpose of these drivers., Also these drivers proivde support for the new x700 seriers cards since you cant use the 4.9 if you want more recent drivers than what is on the cd that the x700 are shipped with.
