Having ATI Radeon 9700 Pro, and DirecX 9a. Details are at my Rig.

Recently I upgraded my ATI display driver to Catalyst 3.2 Driver Suite. Shortly I became aware of that the OpenGL is missing from the new driver suite. The previous Catalyst that comes with the video card has OpenGL. I was able to configure my NEC MultiScan LCD display in more details with OpenGL. Anyone could confirm if ATI dropped OpenGL in its new release, and if there anything that can compensate the functionality of OpenGL for display settings?

Thanks,

wanchan

you lost opengl functionality (like, can't play quake 3) or just the opengl tab?
3.2's have both...with the new radeon 9700 I installed, I went with 3.2 right from the start.

OpenGL functionality has never been dropped since it was first put into the original Rage based cards. Your driver install must borked - try uninstalling everything, restarting and then reinstalling it.

The tab is completely lost.

Remove the drivers and either reinstall them or do a fresh download and try again, that should work.

thanks for the advices.

oh well, i did not want to mess up with drivers. just unstalled the new version, rebooted at the end of eahc process, and reinstalled the original driver, version 7.8. the below are current settings:
1. DirectX 9a
2. ATI display driver for Radeon 9700 Pro version 7.8 xx
3. Windows Media Player Encoder 9 Series.

Of course with the older driver, the OpenGL tab is back. I dont play games much. Having Radeon mostly graphic designs.

I am running the 3.2's and have an opengl tab so there has to be something up with the install.

It seems that the Catalyst 3.4 drivers are coming out somewhere between May 13-15.

LOL. The initial install of my 9700 AIW was seriously fubar'd until I installed the new 3.2 drivers (about 5 hard reboots). My CPU temp ran high, I'd crash on any sort of overclock (didn't even try to o/c the card itself). It would not detect my AGP (listed as 0X). After I installed the 3.2 driver set things calmed down, and I think I've posted the largest relative gain on a video card install. I went from 803 3dMark01 points to a whopping 7300. Not bad for a 440BX board, PC100 memory, 2X AGP, and an 850 MHz CPU. So I'd say the upgrade is worthwhile, but you may need to overinstall your OS.

Time to upgrade your whole rig dude. The 9700 is too much for it. :D

It runs fine now, but I did buy it with the intention of upgrading soon. I figure a Springdale with a 2.8c CPU and some nice memory. That and another HD and I'll be king of the block for a couple of days. I did have some anxious moments when I first installed...
