What did you update from? 11.5?

Maybe, the 3X 5830 rig exhibiting the cpu bug was used for nothing but mining, mostly headless, so I didn't really pay attention to it at all as long as the miners were running. I can't be 100% sure the cpu bug is new with 11.7 on that machine. I do know my system at home with 2 5830s is mining away happy with 11.7 and cpu usage is 15% or less.

I update every month like I normally do,no issues as usual for me(another boring install)...only reason I do update is mainly because of bug fixes etc.. which may effect the next game I buy,any speed improvements is a nice bonus.

I'm on 11.5.

...thinking about it now, I think the reason I dropped 11.6 was the Skype crashing, though I don't remember exactly what it was.
(Oh, and my card's a 5850, I believe.)

Time to try out the 11.7s.

These days I am not buying any new games, so I am not going to update my drivers every month. Why fix it.. when it ain't broken. ;)

Same here. I immediately update every month, do a thorough uninstall with DriverSweeper and everything, and I usually have zero problems. I don't have an advanced multi-GPU setup like some other people though. I'm kinda OCD which explains my need to be constantly updated.

Still no fix for the "you don't have an AMD card installed" warning on every_goddamned_boot when using Virtu in I-mode. :(

Anyone tried the 11.8 preview that was released along side the 11.7?

I'm using them. I had an issue within the first hour where my mouse pointer became corrupted, the first time I've had that since the orginal 5870 drivers. But after a reboot, everything has been fine. There is a nice little boost in Crysis 2 performance, but I haven't noticed any gains or loses with other games.

The 11.8 preview claims performance boosts in Crysis 2 DirectX 11, Fear 3, and when forcing MLAA from the control panel. Interestingly, these boosts are supposed to apply to all 6000 and 5000 series cards. Seems AMD hasn't quite forgotten the 5000 series just yet.

Very interesting indeed. I'll have to check out that release.

Hey hey they finally fixed the cursor lag bug. Only took them 2 years.

Corner cursor lag bug is very much still there on Linux. Will try with windows this evening, it may only be there for multi-gpu/crossfire, who knows. But it's definitely present and accounted for on 64 bit Natty.

What's worse is the second card is no longer active/visible to OpenCL. I can still OC it just fine using AMDOverdriveCtrl, see temperature, etc but only one 'Cypress' device is visible to OpenCL.

Downgraded to 11.6 as well.

Isn't dx11 supposed to do that by default?

No, has to be exposed by drivers. Nvidia finally got it out for all games not too long ago, but AMD is dragging their feet. DICE has aid they' working with them to get it ready for BF3, so it might be just around the corner.

It would really blow my mind if they didn't have it ready for BF3.

Well, who knows, Civilization V which soon has been out for a year had DX11 multithreaded rendering, yet Nvidia took plenty of time before they supported it, and AMD still doesn't
I guess BF3 is a bigger release though

What is neat with DX11 multithreading, according to Anandtech's DX11 article, is that it also will carry over to DX10 and 10.1 hardware:awe:(though the cards need driver work for it to work to its full extent, dunno if Nvidia has done that)

The Battlefield series seems to be one of the "Gaming Evolved" titles for AMD, so AMD will probably work closely with DICE to make sure multithreaded rendering works.

11.7 got rid of the 5 second lag whenever i loaded a new level in crysis 2. wasnt a dealbreaker, but it got annoying, so its nice to have it gone. no perceptible difference in fps though

Still no DX11 multithreaded rendering support:(

This IMHO is the biggest downfall of the ATI drivers. Nvidia is going to kill them in performance and a lack of stutters when these bigger DX11 games start to hit.

So you are saying "bigger" games cause stuttering...Interesting.

I'll make sure not to buy games that come on more than one disc.

Stop being stupid. The bigger games referring to sales. Such as BF3. Nvidia will be the card to have if AMD doesn't get their multi threaded drivers figured out.

Oh, okay, so games that sell more copies stutter.

What happens if I buy a game before it sells big? Does it stutter more as they sell more?

:)
