cataclyst problem

The last driver version before the cataclyst works fine... and then any version of the cataclyst (including 2.2) make my whole system run extremely slow. Even browsing webpages it feels like im on a 486. The second I put on the old driver my system is fast again. When I try to run 3D mark an error msg saying 3dmark wasn't able to detect the minimal features in your 3d-accelerator and crashes. THis is driving me nuts...

ati radeon 8500le (not oc'd at moment)
