CAT6 wiring in house help

I may be purchasing a house on a slab that also has high ceilings, I want to network all of the rooms.

How difficult will this be? What are my options?

Wireless or climb in the attic , drill a hole in the top plate for the walls and fish the wire down to a socket you install.

1. Have you ever wired anything?
2. Do you have the proper tools?
3. Does it have to be Cat6? Would wireless\powerline networking not work?

I have wired a house with a basement inwall, my worries are that it may be difficult to route with cathedral ceilings, I'm not sure if there's an attic or not at this point. Wireless will be fine for some devices but not for my "office".

What equipment do you have and where do you want it? If your office is the only thing that really needs wired access you can place the wireless router there and use its physical connections for the devices in that area.

What I want is 4 drops in the office, and have them connect to the router in the garage where the server will sit, I will be doing lab test (for server certs, testing, etc), data backup, etc and do not want to send that data wirelessly or over power lines.

The LR and Kitchen sits between the connected garage and office, the LR and KT have 20' cielings, the office has 12' ceilings, I don't know if there's an attic or crawl space above the LR.

I can get access to a snake, if that's what you mean by equipment.

I don't think anyone here can tell you if the house has an attic\crawl space or not. If neither is an option you are probably SOL on doing it yourself. You will be looking at pulling drywall the entire length of the run to place the cable in the wall or looking at some how running the wire along the outside of the house. Neither of which are probably good DIY for a first-timer.

Is there a reason against wireless\powerline? Depending on the conditions in the house powerline can get 100+Mb\s.

I'm leaning more towards running the line outside the house under the vinyl with special outdoor cat6, I would hire one of the guys I work with that runs cabling for our employer. I suppose that's the best option if there is no attic, I'm still looking into that from the realtor. Wireless is fine for my wife's laptop or other loose end devices but I prefer wired over any wireless connection, especially for the lab.

If the house has an attic, don't buy it without looking around in it first.
Lots of home problems show up in places like the attic and crawlspaces.
Running cable on the outside is fine as well. They make very good direct burial cat6 cabling, so it could be buried around the edge of the home then brought up the wall with a conduit to where you need it. Or do like you suggested and hide it under the vinyl siding, that also works really well.
