Cat6 too short?

I would actually be concerned about the cable being too short. Minimum length is 1 meter but that's if the NIC goes to active equipment like a switch.

Is that true of any network/GigE cabling? I bought some shorter CAT6 cables from Monoprice to re-do some of my network setup. I was using 10/14-foot cables for devices that were right next to each other.

So I replaced them with 1' cables. Was that a bad idea? It still seems to work.

i see .3 meter cat6 all the time - otherwise datacenters would be a mess

.3 as in 1/3rd? (just making sure that "." wasnt a typo)

If that's the case, I hope those short patch cables are running from a device (Server, switch, etc) to a patch panel/keystone jack. If they are connecting two devices (Server to Switch with less than 1 meter of patch cable in between, for example), then that data center cabling is out of spec and the person responsible for cabling the devices should be enlightened.

Cables can be .3 meters (about 1 foot), just typically the in-wall makes the minimum length. I use a ton of 1 footers for some patch panels but that 1 foot is just part of a 20-200 foot drop.
