Cat5 problem

I have structured wiring setup in my new house, but I dont like how things are terminated.
I'd like to be able to move stuff around so I need to extend the cable that comes out of the wall.
Right now I probably only have 3' left If I cut all the cable from their patch panel.
I need to figure out a way to extend this cable so that I can move my patch panel in the new equipment rack that i've got. Is this possible guys ?? or is there any suggestion on how to do this ?

Let just say I take the cable off the patch panel and cut them even, and this is all I have hangin from the wall. The distance from the wall to the top of my rack will be around 9 feet, so I am short 6 ft.

What can I do to extend all these cables (24 cat5e drop) ??

azev, it is possible to connect new cables to these, for example, you could get a cat5e-rated 110 cross-connect block (telco style). However, none of the things you could do to extend these cables are good for signal quality. If you've got plenty of margin, go for it, but I'd suggest that you first try very very hard to avoid having to do anything to extend the cables. That is, find some way to put the patch panel on the ends of the cables as you have them now - that's the best option.

For example, is there any slack in the cables you can pull out?

I tried pulling, but unfortunately there are no more slack on the cables. My house is wired and terminated using gigabit switch, so signal is pretty important for me to keep my gigabit speed. Now extending 6 foot using the telco grade 110 block is not going to degrade the signal significantly is it not ??

What about leaving their patch panel but hiding it or something, then running cables from their patch panel to the back of your new patch panel?

azev, there are cat5e rated 110 cross-connect blocks, and you must use such a beast. Unrated / telco blocks won't do. But seriously, find a way to avoid having to extend it.

I know this is kind of rubbing it in, but now you see the importance of adding tons of slack to cable runs. You can always cut, but if you're a few feet short life is not good.
