cat5 or cat6

im going to be needing about 50-75 feet of ethernet cable, but was wondering if there is any noticable difference beteen cat5 or cat6 cable.

Yes, Cat6 is a larger diameter cable.

Depending on your equipment you may notice some advantage but if you're using 10/100 gear I would be amazed if you see any difference. If your building your own cables some Cat 6 is a real pain to work with also. The Commscope I have been using is easier as it only has a flat ribbon sheild between two pairs as opposed the "+" style sheilding that isolates each pair.

You have no idea if cat 6 would help him. He hasn't specified what he will be doing over the cable. If he's using 10/100 gear, there's nothing cat6 can do for him. Even if he is doing 1000mbps, cat5e should do just fine as stated earlier as long as it's terminated properly, etc.

cat6 is a bitch to wire.. i got so much blisters from it.. not fun.. for what your doing.. cat5e would be easier.. unless you're building a large scale network..
