Cat5 or Cat6 cable for my network.....

I need to know if it would be smater to go with cat6

i doubt it.. I dont' know the max lenght of cat6 cable, but the max length of CAT5 is 100meters(300+ feet), which should be long enough..

Of course, correct me if I am wrong with how long you need the cables to be

Yes what is your requirements for networking? Cat6 is more expensive qnd has a tighter twist for what, 350mhz? Do you have a network that supports those speeds? Most topology's will be fine with cat 5 and it does fine at 10/100.

350 MHz is CAT5e.

CAT 6 is something different.

just use CAT5, or CAT5e. forget about CAT6.

I thought the confusion with cat5e and cat 5 led to renaming it cat 6. I will do some check up on that. The short answer is use Cat 5 unless there is a bonified need for 350+mhz bandwidth. 100 does most work quite well.

Isn't there 350mhz hq cat 5 cable? i think i've seen it in stores, under some FAST-mhz network cable brand or something like that...

the e is just an enhancement. i mean cat6e drafts exist, and cat7e drafts exist.

i am not an expert, but i know for sure that cat6 is something all together different than cat5e.

i did a search for CAT 5 info on hotbot, and found a nice place... but that was a while ago. linksys would not have all that CAT stuff, meaning unofficial stuffs...

but i do highly recommend the linksys FAQ pages.
