Cat5 for phone cable?

my gut is telling me yes, but is there any reason I can't use Cat5 cable to run phone lines?

I've got 1000ft of cable I've had for years, and I am wiring up my house for a network, so I figure I might as well run lines for the phones too.

 
Couple extra wires you won't need but it will work fine. All our lines at work go over Cat5 including the cheapie old phones.
