cat5 cable question

I need to make a few cat5 cables to run data from a phone board (yes, I know, phone board != good for networking, but I can't change that now) to a d-link dss-5+ switch. What I need help with is figuring out the proper pinout. I've made a few cables of my own already, but none of them seem to work.

The cables on the phone board are wired, from the top, like this:
blue/white
blue
orange/white
orange
green/white
green
brown/white
brown

I tried cables with the following pinout (assume this is left to right, with the copper part of the clip facing up, the springy part facing down):

1) brown, brown/white, green, green/white, orange, orange/white, blue, blue/white. these cables were able to connect to the switch but no devices were able to talk to each other.
2) brown, brown/white, orange, blue/white, blue, orange/white, green, green/white. when I tried these cables, nothing was able to talk to anything.

Now, which pinout should I try next?
a) orange/white, orange, green/white, blue, blue/white, green, brown/white, brown
OR
b) blue/white, blue, orange/white, orange, green/white, green, brown/white, brown
OR
c) Whatever you think I should try.

Any helpful thoughts are welcome!

Use "a" That's a 568 standard.

I'm not sure what you're calling a "phone board" (punch block or panel). The order punched into a panel may not be what's presented at the contacts; frequently the connection order is done on the circuitboard that the ports are mounted.

Good Luck

i also dunno what phone board means ... but if ur for instance hooking up a nortel phone to some punchdown blocks or something ... it uses the 2 center pins (4 and 5 if you are trying to use cat5 cable)

generally in terms of wiring phones, you use 1 pair tops
